Encaustic Art, Making Art with Beeswax

Encaustic Art, Making Art with Beeswax

Art Talk
Encaustic or hot beeswax painting has been around for more than two thousand years. The ancient Greeks used pigmented beeswax to decorate their wooden ships and the Egyptians later used the medium for mummy portraits. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, artists have explored and re-invented this ancient medium for contemporary art. On April 3rd, the Treasure Valley Artists’ Alliance will host a panel of encaustic artists to discuss and illustrate their different approaches to create translucent layers and complex textures and to combine these with other media. If you are an artist or art appreciator who wants to learn more about encaustic art, this event is for you. The event is free and open to the public.
